First, select three or more photos of the subject.

Naturally lit, non-flash, photographs work the best.

Head of subject should be bigger than a thumb print.

Keep it simple: Plaid, striped and highly detailed clothing and backgrounds distract from the portrait subject.

Don't worry about the details. Little changes from photo to portrait can be made easily.
